Pompton Lake/River
by Peter Walker

Friday, July 3, 2015

Seven other kayakers joined Naomi and me for our short notice, short trip on the Pompton River from Jackson Ave in Pompton Plains to the boat launch by the Boonton Turnpike bridge in Lincoln Park near Mountain View train station.

At 8.5 feet on the Jackson Ave gage, the water level was just right and we had a "lazy river" paddle in beautiful weather. Many of the houses that used to be riverside have been bought out and demolished as flood abatement and to create a Pompton River Greenway, so except for about the last mile the river seems much more scenic than it did when Ed Gertler wrote about it in "Garden State Canoeing."

Thanks to Lori B., Lori Y., Marina L., Joseph M, Michael R, and Linda and Joe W. for joining us, and to Joe for providing interesting commentary on the Greenway work and plans.

A couple of Naomi's pictures are attached.
