Hackensack River Canoe &
North Branch of the Raritan River

Well, the forecast for more precipitation for Friday and Sunday didn't really come through and the river level didn't rise up to meet us but, regardless, it was a nice sunny day and you can paddle the North Branch of the Raritan at 2.86 feet (just barely, and not from Far Hills.)
Saw my first phoebe of the season and heard the rattle of the belted kingfisher. There were red tail hawks, common mergansers paired up, flickers, cardinals, blue jays, chickadees, titmice, juncos and lots of fast moving sparrows. A couple of pairs of Eastern bluebirds and the Great Blue Heron rookery filling up made the rest of the day. Thanks to everyone for coming out.
